NEWS & INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
This section, at its simplest, needs no major introduction. As the title says, it is simply a place where you can get news and information. Following the expansion of my Australia & Sydney section, the emphasis is now on international matters. For lots of links to (mainly Sydney) newspapers, radio, magazines, television and more, go to the Sydney Life page. The local information links have moved to the Australia page, where they rightfully belong. Meanwhile, links and search engines associated with newsgroups are on my newsgroup page.

INFORMATION OVERLOAD
The worst part about modern life - whether it be on the 'net, TV or radio, newpapers, magazines, mail (including junk mail) or otherwise - is the flood of information that we get bombarded with, amongst other things, but often prople find it difficult to cope.
At a more esoteric level, information technology is a big issue, as my book delves into. There is hot competition between informational theorists and analysts in overseeing the use and abuse of media. And, on a personal level, we have to manage our exposure and input to information, so that we get the useful and enriching type that we need while avoiding the useless or wasteful stuff.
Since the provision of information online is simply another part of the news business, readers are free to discover and negotiate with providers for the sorts of services that they want. For example, I used to get the major world news reports emailed to me daily, and abridged television programs once a week - but I don't find it that useful anymore. Expect more of this in future, as the internet starts to travel to your door, instead of waiting for you to come to it.
